Unbranded Strong and Soft Lavender-Scented Toilet Paper (Dollar Tree)

My experience with scented toilet paper is quite limited – I think the only kind I’ve tried was one from Aldi a couple of years back. I think it might have been lavender, as well, but all I remember from the experience was how disappointed I was. I don’t even remember specifics as to why: I’m vaguely remembering that the scent was very weak. At any rate, I never felt the need to try it again.

Until I saw that Dollar Tree was offering a lavender toilet paper, something I had never seen in-store before. Needless to say, I was very skeptical: If a more expensive brand wasn’t up to snuff, then how could I expect four rolls of dollar store tissue to perform well? But I also knew that I had to give it a shot. I mean, hell, even if the scent isn’t all that great, you’re at least still left with rolls of otherwise fully functioning toilet paper. And that’s something that would never go to waste, at least in our household. My experience with scented toilet paper is quite limited – I think the only kind I’ve tried was one from Aldi a couple of years back. The basic rolls themselves are more or less the same strength and consistency of Dollar Tree’s “Soft and Strong” basic toilet paper rolls, which are always available in their stores. While I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere close to the best TP money can buy, I’ve never had a problem with their strength or consistency…it’s just a basic toilet paper at a basic price, and it’s one of the brands I constantly keep on hand for my own bathroom.

The biggest surprise is that the lavender scent is actually pretty impressive. I’m always afraid of anything fragrant from dollar stores, because they tend to smell either over-the-top awful, or they don’t have much scent at all. It’s like there’s really no middle ground…it’s either one extreme end of the spectrum, or the other. However, the lavender scent here is just perfect, both in terms of accuracy – it at least smells like pretty much any other lavender-scented product I’ve ever smelled – and strength, where it strikes a perfect balance of being highly fragrant, but not overly so. It’s not so strong that you can smell it just from walking into the room – in fact, you can only smell it if you really lean in close – but the scent radiates pretty strongly from there. And that’s the way it should be – after all, this isn’t a room spray.

Overall: 7.5/10. It’s not the most premium toilet paper on the market, and scented toilet paper feels more like a novelty than a necessity, but this hits the nail on the head about as well as it can. Imagine their “Soft and Strong” toilet paper, only with a rather pleasant lavender scent added, and that’s what you’re getting. Is it really necessary? I don’t think so, and it’s not a variety that I’m going to keep buying with any sort of regularity. But what it does, it does very well; better than I ever expected. Consider me impressed.
